On Wattpad Adaptations
Ito lang, for fellow authors, kahit ano pa'ng status niyo, whether you're popular, mid-range, or nagsisimula pa lang.
KILALANIN ANG SARILI. Got this advice from a good friend. Always take time to know yourself well, and not just through the lenses of the people surrounding you.
Kakayanin ko ba ang pressures if I sign up for an adaptation? Kakayanin ko ba na isakripisyo ang akda ko? Kakayanin ko ba ang bashing at negative comments na wala sa hulog, just because they did not like your decision? Kakayanin ko bang mawalan ng audience?
Honestly, more on the negative side na nakikita ko with adaptations, I mean, the people's reactions towards stories to series in general. Is your inner peace worth sacrificing for the 15 minutes of spotlight? It's not even about pleasing people. But more like, "Will I still write, will I like myself if I made this decision?"
Years may pass, and mas tatatak sa kanila kung hit or miss ang isang story to series adaptation. But to each their own. And if ever you signed yes to an adaptation, prepare to learn from the lessons and experiences involved. Honestly, as of present, I prefer my good night's sleep over the fleeting buzz of my story getting adapted, with the risks and losses greater than the rewards.
I sincerely wish for the success of all the authors having their stories adapted into series. ❤
Add ko lang, sana may iba rin options ng production companies, creative teams, and actors to do Wattpad adaptations, and those who will be open to explore underrated stories too. Maybe then, I can be open to have my own story adapted into audio-visual format, but not at this point.
